Happy Birthday to Me!

I spent a delightful birthday "day" sketching at the Field Museum with our Monday sketch group. My intention was to focus on the architecture but I was quickly distracted by the people and exhibits. Maybe after ALL these years I should just accept that that's who I am and what I do. LOL
The second sketch was done waiting for the bus home. I huddled in the shelter. These brave souls stood out in the late afternoon cold!

  1. Happy Birthday, Barbara! I am sorry I chickened out due to the cold weather and wasn't there to wish you that in person. I did paint though, as I said I would, didn't waste the art time.

Your sketches are delightful. Especially the dinosaur - love Sue! How long did you wait on the bus stop? Looks like too long if you were able to sketch those two bundled up people.

All the best wishes for your B-day!

  3. Thank you Alex and Ann!
It wasn't that long a wait probably about 10 minutes, give or take a few. That's why it's so basic - no details, no Soldier Field, no cars etc.
We were a small group but we had a good time.

  6. Happy Birthday, Barbara! And I love your people! I still find drawing them intimidating, but I like the silhouettes ... perhaps that would be a way for me to ease into drawing people.

  12. Barbara, thank you for stopping to comment on my Late Bloomer blog. I am enjoying your sketchbook style very much indeed. Haven't done an EDM challenge in ages and ages, but seeing your elegant sketches makes me think I should go back a do a couple. It looks like you're in the Chicago area - I'm 100 miles north in Janesville, and I'm just about ready for a train field trip to the Windy City.
