Loving Longboat Key
We've been going to Longboat Key almost every October for the past fifteen years. It's a beautiful area. We stay on Longboat Key but take full advantage of the city of Sarasota and its wonderful museums, art galleries, great music, dance and restaurants. Of course it's always fun to eat and shop your way around St. Armands Circle on St. Armands Key.
It really would be paradise if it weren't for the "no-see-'ems", little bugs that make a feast of my legs! They didn't stop me from having a good time and doing quite a few sketches.

These are wonderful sketches. I really get a sense of the place from your use of color and choice of subject. I enjoy the way you compose the page too.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful Barbara! My favorites are the two on the second picture and the two on the right of the third. I think they show so much depth!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Sunshine State! (I was not paid to say that). I like your sketches very much, and love the way you creatively laid them out on the page so that the entire page is part of the show. Curious - what are the dimensions of your pages?
ReplyDeleteThank you both for you kind comments. I really had a great time doing these. I have some others that I'll post soon.
ReplyDeleteDan, these were done in a 4.25 x 6.25 Fabriano sketchbook. It really took the watercolor well.
Didn't I comment on this yesterday? Hmmm, maybe I forgot to wait for the word verification? Oh well, doesn't surprise me, I can be a little flighty sometimes! :)
ReplyDeleteI meant to tell you that I really like the second page, and the right hand side of the third page. The colors and the depth are fantastic!
your sketchbooks are SO interesting(as are your ske5ches),,,they always have such original composition and lay out..I love that umbrella scene!
