Figure Drawing Progress(?)

I'm struggling a little in the figure drawing class. The figures seem a little lifeless. In this sketch I totally missed the subtle backward lean of the pose.

That being said, I'm still having a great time renewing my skills. It is remarkable how much I had forgotten about basic sighting.
I'm thinking about buying one of the virtual pose reference series books, the kind with the DVD. I don't know how useful it would really be.

  1. You may have missed an angle (I don't know but I'll believe you), but you did a wonderful job on the legs! It's hard to capture so much with simpe line. I often realize just how far off I am with a line when I go back to work over it, which is why I prefer charcoal to pen in life drawing class.

  2. This is lovely, truly. I've been curious about those DVDs too.

  3. Welcome to the "class of struggling in life drawing" Just about everybody struggles in life drawing, but we're all after the same thing...growt. so, keep going, you're doing great!
