Well, these sketches just prove not every meal is gourmet and every sketch is not a winner!

Coffee in a Cardboard Cup (part 2)
Keeping a food diary has made me realize how much coffee I drink. I must confess not all cups are recorded in that diary. The small Handbook sketchbook, that fits so easily in my purse, documents many a quick visit to Starbucks. I really like the small (3.5 x 5.5) Handbook. I've been taking it everywhere and taking it out for a quick sketch is getting less and less intimidating! As I look at these sketches I can hardly believe the same person did all three. They definitely reflect my state of relaxation (or lack thereof)!

I Wondered Why
This food diary is a real eye opener for me. I couldn't figure out why I was gaining weight. Ha! Well here's why in living color! Now the question is -what am I going to do about it?
I really do have a new found respect for all those who have posted their food diaries. It's very time consuming and can be a real exercise in discipline. I have the rest of last week to scan and post but when you start to hum along with the scanner it's time to stop for the day!
Most of my food diary is done from memory at odd moments during the day. I've found it to be a great help in sketching people in public. My power of observation is getting better and I retain it longer-great for adding to a sketch after the "model" has moved along. All in all I'm glad I started this project for Lent but Easter is still a long way off!

The Windy City
They say "if you don't like the weather in Chicago wait fifteen minutes." Well it mightn't be better but it will be different!
These are two small (1 1/2 x 2 in.) sketches. I was playing around with gouache. I hope to do a lot more with it.
I'm still doing the food sketches but figured, like the weather, I'd give you a little change!

Good News-Bad News
The good news is this Lenten Food Diary is getting me to draw and paint everyday! Somedays are so busy creating on the computer that it's hard to make myself pick up an actual pen or brush and sketch and yet, that is exactly what keeps the creative juices flowing!
The bad news-this Lenten Food Diary is highlighting some strange eating patterns!

Food! Glorious Food!
This is much harder than I expected! I find myself thinking about the color and texture of my food choices while I'm eating- a good thing. I've even passed up somethings knowing I wouldn't have time to sketch them right then or even later - another good thing. It certainly promotes more mindful food choices.
