Eyes Wide Open
It's funny how things can strike you. I was driving along and got stopped for the light at North and Clybourn in Chicago-a place I've passed a hundred times- when the shapes and arcs just blew me away. I don't know if it was the lighting from the gathering storm that called my attention to the scene in a new way but I just had to put in on paper ASAP.

Hi Barbara: Been enjoying your work on Flickr for awhile now, but never stopped at the blog til today. Wonderful sketches and drawings! Could you explain your materials and process a bit? looks like a Handbook Journal, maybe? And is it mostly pencil and watercolor, or do you use some marker too? Howw do you get those great gray tones? Thanks, Nel
ReplyDeleteThank you for you're kind words. Coming from you I am really flattered! You're right it is a Handbook journal. I like the way the paper can take pretty much what ever I throw on it.
ReplyDeleteI've never been very particular about what I use to sketch-what's ever in my purse- but the more I sketch the more I'm developing likes and dislikes . I do like to use a both black pens that bleed and those that don't to get a good mix of clean lines and great grays. I'm also thinking about trying water soluble pencils. I may pick up a few when I'm at Dick Blick's.
Love this! The composition is just amazing - you definitely have an artist's eye.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I love the grays and how they helped show the coming thunderstorm.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great composition - It would make see a pretty wonderful oil painting, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteAmazing--I guess sometimes we see things so often we don't see the beauty in them until we suddenly have a fresh perspective. This really is an awesome image! Glad you shared it with us!
